Detoxification Techniques
Detoxification has been practiced around the world for centuries as a means to maintaining good health. Are you feeling lethargic, unmotivated, angry even? Having skin problems, aches and pains, headaches, sleeplessness, digestive problems? This could be the way forward for you.
Detoxification is about resting, cleansing and nourishing your body and mind. Most toxins are eliminated through the bowel via the liver but there are many routes of elimination. The circulation of blood and lymph (serous fluid) take toxins from the tissues to the kidneys and liver. The lungs and the skin are also important areas for releasing toxins and can become stressed when the main organs don’t work properly.
5 ways to detox
- 1 Increase fibre in your diet by eating fresh fruit and vegetables (especially vegetables). Also wholegrains in small amounts - brown rice, rye, barley and oats. Increase alkaline minerals by using either sea salt or Epsom salt baths or footbaths and adding Himalayan salt to food.
- 2 Avoid toxin promoters - Stress promotes toxins as it blocks the paths of elimination. Counteract stress with exercise, relaxation, meditation, yoga and Bach flower remedies. Seek help if problems persist. Cigarettes, alcohol, coffee, refined sugars and saturated fats are also toxin promoters. Try to replace household cleaners, air fresheners, toiletries, cosmetics etc with with natural alternatives.
- 3 Increase your oxygen levels to boost your immune system. Drink 6-8 glasses of water a day ( it contains oxygen), breath deeply into your stomach and take a walk in fresh air, by the sea if possible.
- 4 Improve the circulation of blood and lymph by exercising, dry skin brushing, rebounding (little trampoline), hydrotherapy - a hot shower for 5 minutes, cold for 30 secs and relax for 30 minutes. Or sweat in a sauna. You can make your own sauna with infrared heat lamps.
- 5 Take herbs to promote the function of the organs of elimination. Take supplements to improve nutritional status, supporting the immune system and liver function.
